1. Today was supposed to be my earlyearlyearly birthday celebration of sorts. Me and two friends were supposed to see Cirque Mechanics tonight.

One of them is sick in the hospital (it's just strep throat, so she won't die), and the other is feeling emo.

For the first one, it's understandable. The second one... idek.
Not emo about it, actually kind of 'meh' about it all. I've gotten used to things like this happening, I just need to think of a way around it.

Because these three tickets were expensive and the performance is tonight only.

2. GOOD THING IS LAST NIGHT WAS AMAZING FOR ME. THAT'S RIGHT. FOR ONCE THIS YEAR I HAD SOMETHING GREAT HAPPEN TO ME. MY LUCK IS GETTING BETTER!

See. For those of you who don't know. I'm in high school and I'm running a book group on comics as my Senior Thesis Project. I teach my students the history of the comic industry and we read comics I pick. This is my second year of doing this. Last year, we read Watchmen, Fell, Ultimates, and Immortal Iron Fist. This year, we're reading Civil War, Kabuki: First Blood, and ...It's a Bird along with transitional series.

ANYWAY. GOOD NEWS. I've been trying to get professional guest speakers for my book group all year. So far I've sent out letters of request to both the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund and David Mack. I haven't gotten a reply to those letters in a long time.

UNTIL YESTERDAY. WHEN THE EXECUTIVE PRESIDENT OF THE CBLDF SAID HE'D BE WILLING TO DO A TELECONFERENCE WITH MY GROUP. AND THAT HE'S EXTREMELY INTERESTED IN WHAT I'M DOING.

So. Oh god I should not be posting this right not. LAB REPORT. Hnnnnnnnnng.

ANYWAYS.

Everyone. Y'all need to slap me for being too ambitious. I mean, I still have those ten college essays to write. By next week.

So what's the logical thing for me to do?

COME UP WITH AN RP IDEA

The premise is simple enough: Your character wakes up the the lonesome Old, Wild, Wild, West. It's a historically based RP (based on a time I don't even really enjoy, oh god why am I doing this), which means I have to do a shit ton of my PHD-level history research (no joke here guys, seriously. I read primary texts from Muslim historians dating back to the 1100's. For fun). HOWEVER. I THINK THIS WOULD BE AWESOME GAME BECAUSE OF HOW IT WOULD BE MANAGED.

So, there's a main comm, right? Which is all: Yaaaaaaaaaaaay~ We're the main comm~ Here's the premiiise~ You're character's inthe wildwildwild west! A New Frontier! There is only ONE TOWN. AND THAT IS THE TOWN YOU START IN, aka the off-shoot of the main comm or something. And, while your character can stay in the main town. Here's the kicker. The thing that makes it different, and probably near-impossible to manage.

You're encouraged to have your character explore the area. Settle new towns (new comms which link back to the main comm/follow the same rules of the main comm/follow continuity of the main comm but are otherwise completely independent). The towns would be player-built. Player-run. Each with it's own politics.

Think those life simulation/settlement games. Yeah. I want to try to adapt that into an rp. People always complain about jamjar rp's. Well, I want to make the complete opposite.

I want to make a sandbox.

I'm seeing it as an experiment on how things develop/where people would take things. BECAUSE I FIND THAT INTERESTING.

Sooooo. Any of you interested in this? Anyone got tips on how to actually start this up?

Anyone want to tell me this is a shitty idea, greer why are you doing this when you've got ten bajillion other things you've got to get down like those college essays or those lecture request letters to ben templesmith and david hadju and jon j muth and oh dear god.

It's night. He doesn't know the time, but it's dark out, and hey-that's normally what nighttime is. Nighttime. It sounds like such a juevenile word in his head. Like bedtime. Nighttime. The word itself hardly seems to be able to capture the feel of the night. Of the "nighttime". Hardly able to capture the thrill of running across rooftops, of walking the streets of New York. Hardly able to properly summarize the guilty pride one gets when punching street thugs in the face. Nighttime.

He didn't used to patrol at night. No, instead, he walked in broad daylight. Not on rooftops, either. On the sidewalks. Which, looking back, was probably a bad move, but it worked for them. For him and Luke.

Luke.

Lying there. Hooked up to everything. He wouldn't be surprised if Luke was hooked up to the wall. Hell, maybe even himself. But, then again. He'd prefer that.

Give his life for Luke's and all that. Of course Luke would beat him for thinking that. Either a verbal or physical beat-down, it didn't matter. They both worked. Things worked like that with them. If one was thinking stupid thoughts, in comes the other to straighten them out. In a way, it was how they met.

Except not 'in a way'.

"I punched you through a wall, didn't I?" He speaks. His voice is soft, his hands folded in his lap as he leans towards his friend. Lying there. There's a pit in his stomach now, seeing him like that. A pit worse than when he held Orson. A deeper pit than when he learned about Misty's affairs.

This was a hole, opening up wide, and then closing tightly in a spiral. Continuously. It was a familiar feeling, this hole in his gut. A feeling that reminded him of icy hands and a man's voice begging for help. A woman's cold hands pushing him back. Out of the way. His parents. This was the same feeling he had with his parents.

He tries to smile at the man lying before him. Not that Luke can see it, his eyes closed, and for a minute Danny thinks he's dead. But then: hello. There are those vital signs in the background, creating a steady rhythym of boops and beeps and for a minute Danny just wants it to shut up, because Luke's here. Look, he's here. And he's fine, really. After all, he's got skin of steel, what does he need a heart for?

And here Danny thought nighttime was childish.

He leans forward some more, reinforcing his smile as he does so.

"I wanted to tell you that you're going to be my best man." His voice is stronger than he thought it would be. Of course, he also thought that Luke would wake up at that. Wake up and tell him damn right he'd be Danny's best man. Who else was there, really?

The answer was no one. Just Luke. Just Luke was his brother. His family. His only family.

Just Luke.

Daniel Rand looks at the window, covered by blinds. But there's still a bit of light filtering in-the streetlamp is persistant outside, isn't it Luke? Good thing though.

Otherwise it'd still be dark.
